This weekend brought the SKA to Aberavon beach at Port Talbot. Bright and early on Saturday morning myself and many of the Flexifoil Team along with partners and friends were hard and work getting the beach set up before the students appered for the day. Massess of kit for lots of fun.
Sadly the beach wasnt looking its best with alot of craters from the high tide but there was wind and with the tide on the way out it was looking like a good combination for a brill day.
I got asked if I could take part in the teaching which I was really happy to do. With Flexifoil Stings and Rages there was fun to be had for the students. Dave Roberts and myself gave a 3 hour lesson with 4 students which consisited of teaching basic kite skills on both fixed bridle kites and foils on a bar. We set the students tasks which involved a set course with the kite, fetching items and many other kite skills. It was a brillant morning, met some lovely people and what a better way to get others into kiting.
I was then set to go and play but sadly the weather was not on my side but Sunday certinley made up for it with high winds and not a drop of rain, even though it was forcast all day. Result!!
With my Flexifoil 6.5m Mark V Blade and sun shining I was powered up and raring to go and what a day it was. Managing to do forward 540 ariels, reverse 360 arieals, side winders, two wheels and more. My aim was to get 540s and side winders dialled and so chuffed that I did. With Steve my partner and Dave also busting some amazing tricks it was certinley a brillant session.
It was so great to see so many brillant kite surfers and landborders showing off there skills and giving all the help and advice to anyone who wanted it.
I wasnt part of the teaching today but lessons on LEI's skills and groups being taught on landboards and in buggys and looked like everyone had fun. :D
All in all a brillant weekend and in my eyes a great success.
Cant wait for the next SKA and our next meet.
Happy kiting
Helen
